Rolex Submariner Ref 5513 Stainless Steel
This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inner caseback is stamped: “5513”. The serial and reference numbers are visible between the lugs. The bezel insert is in great condition with some scratches and normal wear; it has aged from black to dark grey throughout. The matte black dial is in overall great condition with light patina. The lume on the hour markers have developed patina and aged to a creamy color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands is close to matching the color of the lume on the dial. The seconds hand is a later replacement. It has a stainless steel 93150 Oyster bracelet with 11 links, 580 end links and divers extension link. The bracelet is stamped “V6” indicating that it is from 1996. The bracelet is in great condition with normal signs of wear and a bit of stretch between the links. The clasp shows signs of a previous polish and the crown is still visible.
Pre-Owned Rolex Submariner ref 5513 (Circa 1982) was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966. Rolex made many variations of the matte dial and this circa 1981 example has a “Maxi” dial. Rolex made these “Maxi” dials from around 1978 to 1984. “Maxi” refers to the lume plots being larger than the ones on previous 5513s. This watch has a Mark IV dial and one characteristics of this variation would be the word Submariner above the depth rating and it being shorter in length than the depth rating below and the “S” in Submariner with a flat top.
This example was sold through the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program in 2025 and comes with the CPO beige Rolex pouch, beige Rolex card holder, hang-tag, and international guarantee card (with corresponding serial). We have seen collectors gravitate towards these “Maxi” 5513 Subs because of the larger lume plots that give the dial a more striking look especially when they age to a creamy off white color.
