Pre-owned Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional ref 311.30.42.30.01.005 is about as close as you can get to the classic Moonwatch experience without investing in a vintage watch. This is the hesalite version. The one that stays true to the spirit of the watches NASA flight-qualified, and astronauts actually wore on the lunar surface. The 42mm stainless steel case, black dial, and black tachymeter bezel are instantly recognizable. It has the familiar tri-compax layout with running seconds at 9, a 30-minute counter at 3, and a 12-hour recorder at 6, all driven by a central chronograph hand. The hesalite crystal is very retro, slightly distorted at certain angles that sapphire just can’t replicate. It feels authentic. Inside is the manual-wind caliber 1861, a direct descendant of the movement worn on the Moon. You wind it yourself, just like the astronauts did.
