Vintage 1979 Rolex Submariner 1680 Stainless
This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with scratches and some nicks; the bevels are still visible. The inside caseback is stamped “1680”. Serial and reference numbers are clearly visible. The bezel insert has aged and faded to a lovely grey color; the pip is a later Luminova replacement (with steel frame). The dial is in overall great condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has aged to an attractive cream color. The hands are later luminova service replacements. It has a Stainless steel 93150 Oyster with 12 links, 580 endlinks and divers extension. The clasp stamped “O2” indicating it is from 1990. The bracelet is in great condition with some scratches / normal wear and light stretch between the links.
Pre Owned Rolex Submariner ref. 1680 (1978) is one of the most sought-after vintage watches on the market. It hails from the legendary Submariner collection, complete with a waterproof case, 60-minute diver’s bezel, and self-winding movement. The 1680 also holds a special place in Rolex history as the first Submariner to feature a date mechanism on the dial. Rolex initially made the 1680 with a single line of red text on the dial and would later move to all white text like the example we have here. These “White” 1680’s have gained popularity and are a great entry into the world of vintage Rolex.
