Vintage Rolex Submariner 16800 Black Dial

This 16800 is in overall great, vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear; the case has been polished. The inside caseback is stamped “16800.” Between the lugs have some scratches and the numbers are clearly visible. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the insert is in good, honest condition with scratches and normal signs of wear. The pip shows wear. The matte dial is in overall great condition with light patina and some light marks that can be hard to notice. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a lovely pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has been color matched/ reluemd to match the dial lume. This watch has a 93150 bracelet with 12 links, no. 580 end links and divers extension. The clasp is stamped “K4” indicating it is from 1986. The bracelet is in overall good condition with normal signs of wear and stretch between the links.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner ref 16800 (Circa 1984) is referred to as a transitional model. Rolex went from acrylic to sapphire crystal, an updated movement with quick-set date, and at the beginning of the run the watches featured matte dials like the previous 1680. Later in the production Rolex changed the dials to glossy with white gold surrounds. These are known as transitional models due to the blend of older and new features Rolex decided to use together. These early 16800’s with matte dials are the perfect mix of vintage styling with modern touches like the sapphire glass and quick-set date.
