Vintage Rolex Submariner Ref 1680 Nylon Strap
This 1680 is in good, attractive vintage condition. The case is in good condition with some normal signs of wear. Between the lugs show some scratches, but the numbers are still visible. The crown shows some wear and slight indentations. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert has some scratches, fading and wear throughout; the pip appears to be a replacement. The bezel has a greyish/blue hue to it depending on the lighting. The bezel is a later 1908s service replacement. The lume on the dial has aged to a lovely and even pale yellow. The hands have developed patina and the lume has aged to a similar color to the dial. Under higher magnification, the lume on the minutes and hours hand is showing signs of cracking. The seconds hand has developed patina throughout.
Vintage Rolex Submariner ref 1680 (1978) is one of the most sought-after vintage watches on the market. It hails from the legendary Submariner collection, complete with a waterproof case, 60-minute bi-directional diver’s bezel, and self-winding movement. The 1680 also holds a special place in Rolex history as the first Submariner to feature a date mechanism on the dial. Rolex initially made the 1680 with a single line of red text on the dial and would later move to all white text like the example we have here. These “White” 1680s offer a great value and are a historically important watch for Rolex – the first Date Submariner with all-white text which is something they still do today.
We love how vintage watches all age differently and this one has a that great vintage look from the bezel to the even colored lume on the dial. You won’t find another exactly like it.
