The Zodiac Sea Wolf was introduced in 1953 by the Swiss watchmaker Zodiac, one of the earliest purpose-built dive watches ever made for the public. Launched alongside icons like the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and Rolex Submariner, the Sea Wolf stood out for offering robust underwater capability—rated around 200 meters of water resistance—at a more accessible price point. Its design featured a rotating timing bezel, luminous hands and markers, and a sturdy yet compact stainless steel case that made it both practical and wearable for everyday use. In the late 1960s, Zodiac expanded the line with the Super Sea Wolf, a more rugged version capable of greater depths and featuring improved sealing systems and bold dial variations. The model became popular among both recreational and professional divers during the 1960s and 1970s, but like many Swiss brands, Zodiac struggled during the Quartz Crisis and eventually ceased production. After being acquired by the Fossil Group in 2001, Zodiac was revived, and in 2015 the brand reintroduced the Sea Wolf collection with modern materials and movements while preserving its vintage aesthetic. Today, the Zodiac Sea Wolf is celebrated as a pioneering dive watch—an early example of functional design meeting mass appeal—and remains a favorite among collectors for its historical importance and classic charm.
