Pre-owned Patek Philippe Complications Annual Calendar ref 5036/1J-001 (1999) marked a major milestone in modern watchmaking, as the first annual calendar wristwatch ever produced with a moonphase complication. Introduced in 1997 and produced until around 2006, the ref. 5036 built upon Patek Philippe’s groundbreaking annual calendar invention by adding even more functionality without sacrificing everyday functionality. The layout is thoughtfully balanced, with the date at 6 o’clock, day at 9, and month at 3, along with a power reserve indicator at 12 and a moonphase display integrated just below the hands. Gold Roman numeral hour markers filled with lume complement the matching hands, maintaining legibility while reinforcing the watch’s classic aesthetic. Powered by the self-winding caliber 315 S IRM QA LU, it only requires adjustment once per year, a remarkable achievement when it was introduced. At 37mm in yellow gold with a matching bracelet, the 5036 has a refined presence and represents one of the most historically important complicated Patek Philippe references of its era.
